We brought the W to Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium for the Hogs season opener against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
My first ever Arkansas Razorbacks game ended with a 21-20 victory. My mom and I almost didn’t make it, because while everyone in Arkansas was on their way to Fayetteville, there was a 14-car pileup near/in the tunnel, which caused 7 or 8 miles of standstill traffic and about a two-hour delay. But after finding an alternate route and exchanging some words with an ignorant woman who thought her time was more important than everyone else’s and was trying to drive past everyone on the shoulder, we finally parked and got to our seats.
Louisiana Tech scored 7 points pretty close to the beginning of the game, but Arkansas finally tied it up 7-7 after a while longer. Then it was 14-14 for a while before the Bulldogs scored a couple of field goals and brought it to 20-14 Louisiana Tech. With just a few minutes left in the fourth quarter, Arkansas scored a touchdown and an extra point, making it 21-20 Razorbacks. They barely managed to hold Louisiana Tech off to the end, and were able to start off the year 1-0.
Was it what I expected a Razorbacks game to be? Well there were at least 20 Woo Pig Soiees, a couple of obnoxious rednecks behind us, at least a dozen Arkansas Razorback First Downs and 69,000 of our closest friends. So yes, I’d say it was pretty much what I was thinking.
We had a lot of fun, but took some notes for our next trip northwest:
- Wear a hat. Eventually you’ll get tired of holding the program to block the sun.
- If we go to another September game, get some of the indoor seats. It was warm.
- Pray there isn’t another 14-car pileup on the way.
- Parachute in so you don’t have to park and walk.
WPS.
